"Now that Rainer has given me a future to look forward to, life doesn't seem so hard."

Ali, 14

Ali's story

Aged just 14, Ali desperately needed someone to help him break free from the gang, gun and drug culture. Truanting from school and feeling as though everyone had given up on him, it was Rainer who first gave Ali something to live and hope for.

Breaking free – Ali’s story

“Mum had serious mental health problems and was always in and out of hospital. I often had nothing to eat and was sexually abused by people supposed to be looking after me. I got in with an older gang and started shoplifting, heavy drinking and taking drugs. Things got worse until I was referred to Rainer.

My first meeting with my Rainer case worker began to change everything. He listened like no one had done before and helped me let go of the negative stuff I felt about Mum. We put together an action plan and a seven-day timetable to keep me out of trouble. He helped get me back to school and got me doing positive stuff like going to the gym and doing a vocational course.

Rainer also supported me through my counselling, which helped me get my head around Mum’s problems. Best of all, they supported both of us so everything’s now easier at home.

I’m hoping to pass my GCSEs so I can go to college and learn a trade. Now that Rainer has given me a future to look forward to, life doesn’t seem so hard”.
